Spoilers if you haven't read Steelheart!!!

They told David it was impossible—that even the Reckoners had never killed a High Epic. Yet, Steelheart—invincible, immortal, unconquerable—is dead. And he died by David's hand.

Eliminating Steelheart was supposed to make life more simple. Instead, it only made David realize he has questions. Big ones. And there's no one in Newcago who can give him the answers he needs.

Babylon Restored, the old borough of Manhattan, has possibilities, though. Ruled by the mysterious High Epic, Regalia, David is sure Babylon Restored will lead him to what he needs to find. And while entering another city oppressed by a High Epic despot is a gamble, David's willing to risk it. Because killing Steelheart left a hole in David's heart. A hole where his thirst for vengeance once lived. Somehow, he filled that hole with another Epic—Firefight. And he's willing to go on a quest darker, and more dangerous even, than the fight against Steelheart to find her, and to get his answers.

WhyImWaiting_v2

So, this is a Sanderson book.

…that’s the only excuse I need for it to be my WoW pick, right? Do you seriously want to hear how awesome book 1 was? Or how I’m re-listening to the audiobook right now and the voice actor is blowing my mind and giving me feels I didn’t even feel the first time I read it?! Or or or… no but seriously, I just neeeeeed Firefight–and more of David’s horrible metaphors–in my life. It’s a requirement for continued happiness. (I’m being totally serious.)

What book are YOU anxiously awaiting today?

Link me to your WoW post and I’ll be sure to stop by! :)

  1. Strangely, and I feel intensely disloyal for saying this, Sanderson’s YA has never grabbed me to the extent that his adult fiction does. I was very meh on The Rithmatist and its main character. Steelheart worked better for me, but it still didn’t feel as magical and intense as Stormlight and Mistborn. I think because both of his YA are more “urban fantasy” so it doesn’t feel as escapist to me as his high fantasy does. Doesn’t have that same feeling of being swept away into a fantastical world.

I feel like a traitor now. Please don’t kick me out of the army.

    • I know what you mean – you’re not a traitor! Steelheart was much different than his adult stuff, and definitely had a younger feel to it — which I think is interesting, and possibly says something about how Sanderson views “YA”, since he purposely wrote this for a YA audience. Definitely more action, less “down-time” for character development, and a lighter feel despite the subject matter.

Still, I loved it. And the audiobook makes me love it even more. I’d recommend it, if you’re ever so inclined. It actually made me connect a lot better w/ the book than I had when I read it the first time.

SEEEEE I can talk rationally about this!!

  2. You know how I feel about this book! I love it so much!

And yes, I LOVE the audio version. The narrator is fantastic. He captures all the different voices and personalities so brilliantly! I love how he does Abraham and Cody, plus David’s horrible metaphors

OH GOD… JUST THINKING ABOUT IT GAVE ME FEELS RELATING TO THE ENDING AND THAT ONE CHARACTER! I firmly believe that Sanderson feels are the worst kind of feels. I need Firefight… NEED IT!!!!

  3. That amazing, huh? ^^ I liked the summary of Steelheart, but it’s one of the many books that I never got around to. I hope I can make that up at some point.
In the meantime, I hope you fall in love with the world all over again in this sequel. =)

  4. YES! And if you enjoy the audiobook of Steelheart, did you see the Mitosis (A Reckoners short story) freebie they’re giving away at Audible? I think it’s to promote preorders of Firefight and I think it’s still going on. I’d read Mitosis already, but I grabbed it anyway because this series awesome.

  5. YES^^ I featured this one as my WoW pick too a few weeks ago! How could you NOT?! Even though I’ll always prefer Sanderson’s adult fantasy, ANYTHING he writes is brilliant. Not to mention how freaking awesome Steelheart was in the first place!! I read the e-novella that bridges between Steelheart and Firefight and THAT only made me more excited for this one! Fantastic pick :D
