This twisty, breathless cat-and-mouse thrill ride, told in the second person, follows a girl with amnesia in present-day Los Angeles who is being pursued by mysterious and terrifying assailants.

A girl wakes up on the train tracks, a subway car barreling down on her. With only minutes to react, she hunches down and the train speeds over her. She doesn’t remember her name, where she is, or how she got there. She has a tattoo on the inside of her right wrist of a blackbird inside a box, letters and numbers printed just below: FNV02198. There is only one thing she knows for sure: people are trying to kill her.

On the run for her life, she tries to untangle who she is and what happened to the girl she used to be. Nothing and no one are what they appear to be. But the truth is more disturbing than she ever imagined.

The Maze Runner series meets Code Name Verity, Blackbird is relentless and action-packed, filled with surprising twists.

WhyImWaiting_v2

Two things. 1) I rarely read straight-up thrillers/mysteries; and 2) I was initially really really really skeptical about the whole… book-written-in-second-person thing. O_O However, having recently read (and loved) Half Bad, I’ve rather changed my mind about second person. There are a few sections in that book which are written in second person; and, to my surprise, I really, really liked those sections. (What?!) So honestly, the second person alone is enough to make me super excited and curious about an entire book written in that voice. And the whole thriller/mystery thing… well, I love fast-paced books… okay honestly I’m really just curious about the second person. XD

  1. I think I’ve only read one second person POV book–STOLEN–and that was AMAZING, so I have no problems with that. I reaaally like thrillers and suspense and all that and I haven’t read many of them, so I wouldn’t say no to reading this. I hope it’s good!

  2. I must’ve missed it when they revealed the cover for Blackbird but I love Anna Carey’s books so I am definitely so excited for this one to come out. Interesting how it’s told in second person…. I wonder how that’ll work out. Great pick!

  3. I remember hearing about Blackbird a while ago but I completely forgot about it until now! “The Maze Runner meets Code Name Verity”?! That’s a REALLY interesting (and unique) comparison, so I might have to look into this one just for that! I’m trying to imagine what Blackbird could be like.

I was pretty iffy on the second person narration in Half Bad (personally) but I wonder if I might like it more in this one?

    Really interesting pick!!

  4. Great pick, this is another one that I can’t wait to get my hands on either! For some reason I always seem to enjoy YA thriller/mystery books more than adult ones so definitely looking forward to reading Blackbird!
