In modern-day England, witches live alongside humans: White witches, who are good; Black witches, who are evil; and fifteen-year-old Nathan, who is both. Nathan’s father is the world’s most powerful and cruel Black witch, and his mother is dead. He is hunted from all sides. Trapped in a cage, beaten and handcuffed, Nathan must escape before his sixteenth birthday, at which point he will receive three gifts from his father and come into his own as a witch—or else he will die. But how can Nathan find his father when his every action is tracked, when there is no one safe to trust—not even family, not even the girl he loves?

In the tradition of Patrick Ness and Markus Zusak, Half Bad is a gripping tale of alienation and the indomitable will to survive, a story that will grab hold of you and not let go until the very last page.

So… funny story… Actually, it’s not really a story, but whatever. The fact is, it took me for-freaking-ever to realize what was actually on the cover of this book. At first, I thought it was just red smoke/blood in water — which is great, but *shrugs* But guys… guys

It’s a face.

… :O WHAT! My mind was completely blown when I finally saw it. (See: my face.) And now I can’t unsee it, and I love it. Apparently the gray background is actually super shiny silver, too, and I love how the two words are black and white (black magic and white magic, oooooh!), and they’re vertical and opposing each other and just starting to overlap a little…! Despite my inability to see it the first time, this is a book cover done so, so right.

But it’s not just the cover that has me so excited about reading this book. I’ve read some really amazing reviews for it. ;) Plus: Male protagonist, alt!universe England where witches are totally a thing, good vs. evil and someone caught in between… I just. Want. So bad.

What book are YOU anxiously awaiting today?

Link me to your WoW post and I’ll be sure to stop by! :)

  1. HAHAHAHAHA. *laughing at you with love*

I didn’t noticed either until somebody told me it was a face. And obviously, my face was o_O. I just thought it was just like blood or smoke or something.

  2. I preordered this just a few days ago. Can’t wait to read it. England + Fantasy is everything I need to be interested :D
I hadn’t noticed that face on the cover either until someone wrote a tweet about it. (you, I think? :D) I really hope it’s as good as it’s cover

  3. Great pick, I can’t wait to read this one either! Iove the cover too, think it took me quite some time to realise there was a face in all the swirls as well but it’s been done very cleverly. You can’t really go wrong with witches in an alternate universe and a male main character is a nice change. Not long to now, hope you enjoy it when you get a copy :)

  4. It took me forever to figure out that cover toooooo! I don’t think I did until someone mentioned it on Twitter and then I was like “huh, I should probably look at covers closer >.>”

  5. This book sounds in-TENSE! I’d have to be in the mood for dark and thrilling to read this book. Sometimes I’m in the mood for light and fluffy. :) Great pick! Oh and amazing site! I love the design.

  6. Haha, it took me a while to figure out the face thing , too. Totally love those type of covers though, and the silver is shiny, received a proof a few weeks back, super shiny, and so pretty though!

  7. I keep seeing this one around, either in WoWs or early ARC reviews, and I’m kind of torn because I don’t really dig the whole witch thing, but then so many people are raving about it! To be quite honest, I’ll probably succumb to the hype. Especially because PRETTY COVER!
