A twisty story about love, loss, and lies, this contemporary oceanside adventure is tinged with a touch of dark magic as it follows seventeen-year-old Wendy Darling on a search for her missing surfer brothers. Wendy’s journey leads her to a mysterious hidden cove inhabited by a tribe of young renegade surfers, most of them runaways like her brothers. Wendy is instantly drawn to the cove’s charismatic leader, Pete, but her search also points her toward Pete's nemesis, the drug-dealing Jas. Enigmatic, dangerous, and handsome, Jas pulls Wendy in even as she's falling hard for Pete. A radical reinvention of a classic, Second Star is an irresistible summer romance about two young men who have yet to grow up--and the troubled beauty trapped between them.

I was racking my brain to figure out what I should feature for today’s WoW, because the last week’s “most anticipated sequels” Top Ten Tuesday really cut into my potential WoW picks, and I don’t want things to get boring… BUT THEN I REMEMBERED THIS GEM. I discovered Second Star last week via a couple other WoW posts, and was so confused — how had I not heard of it yet?! I love retellings, and I’ve been wanting a Peter Pan retelling for a while. This one sounds incredibly cool, with a totally unexpected contemporary twist… And a love triangle between Hook and Wendy and Peter?! Okay I know a lot of people aren’t fans of love triangles but seriously. Seriously?? That‘s going to be pretty great. Also, I’m a huge fan of oceanside/beach settings in general, and based on the cover and the whole surfing thing, this is going to have one heck of a gorgeous setting.

Are you a fan of Peter Pan? Are you excited for this contemporary twist?? And of course…

What book are YOU anxiously awaiting today?

Link me to your WoW post and I’ll be sure to stop by! :)

  1. I didn’t even have to read the synopsis to get the Peter Pan reference. “Second star on the right, then straight on till morning” is a tattoo I’ve been considering for YEARS. Oh this makes my heart smile. The contemporary twist is definitely alluring, though the love triangle is a bit meh. I suppose we’ll see how it’s handled.

  2. I have a confession to make: I haven’t read Peter Pan. Yup, hang me if you want :D
Anyway, the cover looks nice, and the premise holds potential. I hope you enjoy reading it!

    Here’s my WOW

    • I know!! What threw me off is that it’s a contemporary retelling – you don’t see a lot of those, and at first my brain was all, “Woah, this has a lot of similarity to Peter Pan…” Well duh, because it’s a retelling, lol. *facepalm*

  3. I LOVE retellings. I haven’t heard of this book either, so thank you so much for sharing!

(Also, do you watch Once Upon a Time? There’s a similar plotline to this!)
