Top Ten 2014 Releases I’m Dying To Read

THIS WAS SUCH A HARD LIST, GUYS. I could easily list 30 books I’m dying to read next year, so I was definitely pulling my hair out over which books to include in today’s Top Ten. However, I was able to narrow it down to 10 books that currently have covers, plus three books that I just couldn’t not include because I don’t even care what they look like, just give them to me nowwwwwwwww. So here we go:

  1. The Unbound » Book 2 in Victoria Schwab’s Archived series. I am so freaking excited for this book, I can’t even. The Archived (as you may have seen in my last Waiting on Wednesday post) has remained a 2013 favorite all through this year, and I am pretty dang sure that The Unbound is going to do the same in 2014. Ugh. Schwab needs to stop being so flawless. (By which I mean: Never Ever Stop.)
  2. Cress » RAPUNZEL TRAPPED ON A SATELLITE. MORE CAPTAIN THORNE. MORE CINDER. JUST–ugh. So excite.
  3. Ignite Me » The final book in Tahereh Mafi’s amazing Shatter Me series. THE WARNER FEELS. I CAN’T.
  4. Isla and the Happily Ever After » I am so freaking excited to get Isla’s and Josh’s (okay especially Josh’s) story — and a conclusion for all the other characters in this lovely series. (ÉTIENNNNNNNNE.)
  5. Second Star » A contemporary retelling of Peter Pan. GIVE IT TO ME NOW.
  6. Ruin and Rising » Book 3 of Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha trilogy. TSARPUNK! This is currently my favorite YA epic/high(?) fantasy series. Seriously freaking awesome.
  7. Wild » This is a retelling of Tarzan. TARZAN!!! Yeah. Get on my bookshelf.
  8. Midnight Thief » After reading the prequel novella, Poison Dance (review and giveaway coming next week!!), I am absolutely dying to read this. The character development in the novella was absolutely stellar, so I seriously can’t wait to see how awesome Midnight Thief is. Plus, I adore books involving thieves/assassins/heists in general (see also: my undying and incomparable love for the Mistborn series). I need this book in my life ASAP.
  9. Dissonance » I’ve been looking forward to this book for what feels like forever!! That cover. *_* And parallel words, yes please!
  10. The Blood of Olympus » The final book in the Percy Jackson saga. I can’t even explain my emotions. MY EMOTIONS!!!

Honorable Mentions

  1. The Shadow Cabinet » After the ending to The Madness Underneath, I’m convinced Maureen Johnson just hates her fans and wants them to suffer (in a totally benevolent and not at all evil way — okay well, maybe a little evil). That being said, she has promised Good Things in this book, and I don’t know why I believe her, but I do. My heart needs healing, and I need this book in my hands like woah.
  2. Shadows of Self » NEW BOOK IN THE MISTBORN SERIES (aka my favorite series of all time). Don’t even get me started, because I will write you a novel about why you need to read this series ASAP. (Trust me, you need to read this series. It’s like epic fantasy meets Ocean’s 11. Just freaking read it already.) Okay shutting up now.
  3. The Aeronaut’s Windlass » The first book in Jim Butcher’s new steampunk trilogy, Cinder Spires. I have loved everything Jim Butcher has written (most notably The Dresden Files, but also the Codex Alera), and I am beyond excited for this new steampunk series. I mean, doesn’t this sound freaking awesome: “It’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen meets Sherlock meets Hornblower. There are goggles and airships and steam power and bizarre crystal technology and talking cats, who are horrid little bullies.” ARE YOU SERIOUS??? Just stop it, Butcher, you’re on fire.

What 2014 releases are YOU most looking forward to?

Let me know in the comments! And be sure to leave a link to your Top Ten post. I’d love to stop by!

  1. Yes, definitely looking forward to Cress. That’s the only book on your list that I’m really familiar with, though. I think I’m most looking forward to The City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin. There are 2 years between the books, so I’m afraid I’ll die or something before I get to read it. lol

  2. Oh, I need to catch up on the CINDER series! I can’t believe I haven’t picked up SCARLET before now – that’s a serious mistake. And CRESS is coming! Yay. Lovely list you’ve put together – I’ll have to check out that Jim Butcher steampunk series!

  3. Seeing The Blood of Olympus on this list has reminded me that I need to get my butt in gear and get reading that series before the final book comes out.

  4. I was really conflicted about the ones without covers too, hehe, your graphics are so pretty too so it’s a shame to not have a cover! Gah, I’m excited for The Unbound even though I haven’t had a chance to read The Archived yet *fails*

  5. Great list! Lots of these made my list as well. I have to start all the series from the beginning though, so I did a list of series I need to read in 2014 – Shatter Me, Lunar Chronicles, Archived and Grisha series all made my list – they all look amazing and can’t wait to read them all! My TTT

  6. Cress, ignite Me, and ISLA. Those are the three books I’m most excited for. I forgot to add Cress to my own list, but I think it’s because I’m that excited. So excited I forgot I was excited.

    Great list!

    • Haha, I totally get that! I forgot to add Unhinged to my list, I’m really excited for that one. But also – it seems so close since it’s coming out in January – and Cress isn’t far either!

    • Gahh, you should definitely read it!! It’s one of my absolute favorite retellings (retelling series…?) of all time. Great characters, great worldbuilding, just really great stories. :)

  7. I’m definitely looking forward to Cress! I’m also interested in Dissonance, but cautiously so since I’m all about seeing parallel universes stories done well.
