Hiatus Announcement + Giveaway!

July 9th – July 31st

I know, I know — I just took a short hiatus a little over a month ago, before/during/and after BEA, thanks to the craziness that surrounded that week… but man it’s hard to catch up after falling behind! After BEA, being super busy with work, then ALA, and now another project I’m currently working on… I’ve been feeling like a bit of a failure at blogging. =S I have no buffer of reviews to post! I haven’t finished a review book in 2-3 weeks! What is happening?!?! Just busyness, and I’ll have more time to do all of that soon. But with the stress I’m feeling, I took a hard look at what I want to be doing, and it’s not “read a book, write a review, post immediately,” which is what I’ve been doing for… well, a while.

So I’ve decided it’s time to put the blog on “pause” for a little bit. I’ve actually been toying with the idea of taking a hiatus for some time, for the sole purpose of getting ahead on my posts and reviews. Part of my stress is the teetering stack of books I want to read/review in the coming months. I can feel them watching me, I swear. And for some reason, right now, I’m more stressed about it all, than I am excited to read them. Which is not okay!!! (And trust me, I know this stress is self-inflicted. That just makes it harder to banish!)  So, I’ve decided to take the breather I need to help me let go, try to get my busyness under control, and try to get ahead, for once, on my blog posts. So…

I’ll be taking a break from posting here until the end of July.

I’ll still be on Twitter, Instagram, Goodreads, etc, so I’m not going totally dark! I just want to use this time to read lots of books and write lots of reviews and posts, and not worry about posting them until I’m back, so I can schedule out a few weeks in advance. :)

BUT I don’t want to go away for any length of time without doing something fun for you all, who are so wonderful to stick around and put up with me. ;)

So, I mentioned how I’ve been getting stressed about upcoming review books… Yeah, yeah, I hear you being all, “WHY, Nikki?! You should just be excited!!” and I know that, I really do, so I wanted to take this time to feature some of the upcoming Fall/Winter (but not necessarily review-) books that I truly am over-the-moon-excited about…

…And I also want to give away a preorder of a Fall/Winter book YOU are excited about!!

So here are some books that I am DYING FOR AND I CANNOT WAIT TO READ THEM (also some ideas for the giveaway-winner’s book of choice? It’s up to you!)…

I still left off a TON of books I’m excited about in addition to these — if I hadn’t cut myself off though, this post would end up being a giant wall of book covers. But I think that covers at least 1 book per month from September through March! Are we excited yet?!

What books are YOU most looking forward to this fall/winter??

I really want to hear what everyone is most excited about reading, what they’ve maybe already preordered(???), and what they’d choose to preorder if they win! Just fill out the Rafflecopter below and be sure to fill in the “commented” entry if you leave a comment!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

This giveaway is for 1 fall/winter preorder of $17 or less, and is open to international entries if The Book Depository ships to you. If the book you want isn’t available for preorder yet, that’s fine! I can order it when it shows up.

♥ See you back here in August! ♥

  1. I can’t wait for ‘Riders’ or ‘Winter’ or ‘The Raven King’. I haven’t preordered any. I don’t buy books really.
I would love any of the three I listed!

  2. I can’t wait for Illuminae, everything everything, asking for it and zeroes. But I’m also looking forward to Queen of Shadows, The Raven King and Winter. There’s too many awesome sounding books coming out in the following months, I’m holding back from preordering until the actual month they’re released so I don’t forget about them.

  3. There are seriously so many books coming out this fall/winter that I’m excited for! I can’t choose one, but I also can’t list them all! I’m very very excited for books like Queen of Shadows, Vengeance Road, Riders, Winter, Truthwitch, The Mirror King, etcetera.

  4. I’m totally excited about Owl and the City of Angels by Kristi Charish. I was part of the tour for book one in January, and I fell head over heels for the characters, and the action. I’ll get an ARC of this, too — and soon, hopefully. Not my else I’m in knots about, but… I’d love to try Veronica Rossi, so Riders would be a good choice. However, I also just got me Blue Lily, Lily Blue, which makes The Raven King an even better choice, finishing a series before starting something new. ;)

  5. I’m most excited for Winter, QoS, FROZEN TIDES, the last 5th Wave book, The Raven King, Carry On, The Winner’s Kiss, the second Storyspinner and too many more to count! Thank you :)

  6. I completely understand, Nikki, because I had to take a break too! Though you’re better than me because I’ve been on hiatus for almost a month and haven’t written any posts to help me when I get back… whoops…

I’m really looking forward to Six of Crows and Winter! I haven’t preordered either yet, so I would choose one of those. I guess I’m looking forward to Winter more since it’s the conclusion (though it’s also sad!).

    • Hah! Well, we’ll see how many posts *actually* get written, but I just need the time to not worry, you know? Even if I only get 3-4 scheduled, I’ll call it a win.

  7. I *desperately* want Winter. There are others I’m looking forward to, but that’s the one that most grabs me. Or possibly A Gathering of Shadows, but I’m not sure what the release date on that one is.

I’m glad you’re taking a break to take care of yourself. See you around the Twitterverse!❤

  8. Awwww don’t leav I will miss you BUT I totally get it. I love hiatus’. I think I am most excited for Sword & Verse or The Burning Glass or Blackhearts out of the news. But for my oldies but goodies how can I not mention QOS and This Fractured Light!! So much need! Have a good stay-cation lovely.

  9. I’ve already pre-ordered Queen of Shadows and Ice Like Fire, and will probably pre-order some more soon. I’m really looking forward to Walk on Earth a Stranger, Winter, Six of Crows, Ten Thousand Skies Above You, All In, Soundless, Passenger, Truthwitch, and The Raven King :)

  10. Very good idea to take a breather Nikki!! I hope you can stop feeling stressed about all the books you have to review and instead be excited about them!!

I have so many fall books preordered already! Some for my Kindle, others in hardcover… But as excited as I am for The Raven King, I still haven’t preordered it… I cannot decide how! Kindle? UK paperback??

  11. I am excited for The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater because I love The Raven Boys series!! Thanks for the great giveaway!! :D

  12. I took a catch-up hiatus last August and it was really what I needed at the time, so much that I’m thinking of making it an annual thing–like “I blog 11 months of the year, but I’m taking this month off always to preserve my love for blogging” kind of thing.

As far as winter books, I’m of course looking forward to The Raven King, Queen of Shadows(which I’ve always pre-ordered), Carry On, Vengeance Road. . . I’d probably pick Winter at this point, though!

    • I’ve been feeling that way, too. A month off is not unreasonable, I think, and if it kickstarts the next 11 months, all the better!! I’m thinking I might start doing that next year, and take off June, after BEA. We’ll see…

  13. I’m assuming “all the books” is an appropriate answer? My list includes, but is definitely not limited to, Queen of Shadows, Six of Crows, Tower of Thorns, Winter… I’m not sure if next Feb/March is included in your question, but THE RAVEN KING and A Gathering of Shadows are obviously my most anticipated books ever. I would probably pick The Raven King, although it might break me.

I totally understand the need to take a break. One of the reasons I haven’t started my own blog is because I never want to lose out on my precious reading time. So go enjoy your books! I’m glad you’ll still be on Twitter for fangirling. :)

  14. The Raven King. I just listened to the rest of the series earlier this year and loved it. I haven’t preordered anything :(

  15. Oh goodness! I’ve pre-ordered a lot for Fall 2015/Winter 2016, but a couple of them are: ILLUMINAE, COURT OF FIVES, DAUGHTER OF DUSK, WALK ON EARTH A STRANGER, THEIR FRACTURED LIGHT, THE WINNER’S KISS, and THE SHADOW QUEEN. I’m honestly not sure which one I would choose if I won…I must ponder this question!
We’ll miss you on your hiatus!!! Thanks so much for the giveaway!

  16. Super excited for Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas, Their Fractured Light by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner, Passenger by Alexandra Bracken, Ice Like Fire by Sara Raasch.
Already pre-ordered Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff and The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater.
    Enjoy your hiatus time! :)
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  17. I’m excited about so many releases! I haven’t pre-ordered anything yet, but I really want Illuminae, Baba Yaga’s Assistant, The Copper Gauntlet, The Thing About Jellyfish, Six of Crows, The Sword of Summer, and soooo many more. I think if I won I’d pick Baba Yaga’s Assistant.

  18. This is really smart – I often think that I should try to blog ahead, but it feels impossible because I it’s double the work for now! You have a great solution here! I’ve pre-ordered Illuminae and I DEFINITELY NEED Their Fractured Light (oh, and Winter too!).

  19. Oh man, I am excited for all of these so now I must got look up Willfull Machines because I have not heard of that one yet! I am also really excited for Morning Star by Pierce Brown! But that book is EXPENSIVE so I’d probably choose The Imposter Queen or The Winner’s Kiss :) Thanks so much for the giveaway and I hope you are able to get WAY ahead on your haitus and stress free :)

  20. Enjoy your hiatus! Just reading and not having to do any blogging afterward sounds amazing. But I know it would drive me batty as I have to review a book within two days of reading it or I forget EVERYTHING. I wish I had your memory!

Thank you for the giveaway! I will see you on Twitter!

    • Ohhhh I’m definitely not planning to wait to review anything — I’m just writing the reviews and scheduling them for August/later. ;) I would die if I had a bunch of unwritten reviews pile up!!!

  21. Equal parts excited and sad because Winter is going to be awesome but it’ll also be the end and I don’t know if I can handle that!

  22. What book(s) are you MOST excited about that are coming out in the fall/winter?! Have you preordered any yet? What would you choose if you win?? (I won’t hold you to this – you can change your mind later.)

Truthwitch, Six of Crows, Queen of Shadows, Illuminae, Passenger, Into the Dim,Untamed, I haven’t preorder one of the previous books, yet. If I win I’ll tell you because if I tell you know, later I might chance the idea, but mainly is one of the previous mentioned.

  23. Naturally, I can hardly stand the wait until September when Queen of Shadows comes out! The gorgeous cover of Their Fractured Light makes me super excited for that one too. I’m also looking forward to Cat Winter’s new book, The Uninvited!

  24. I ‘m sad to see you’re taking a hiatus but completely understand. I can’t imagine how much time it takes to run a blog. I get overwhelmed with all the different books I want to read. I hope your life go stress free really soon. I’m so excited for Darken the Stars by Amy A. Bartol, Queen of Always by Sherry D. Ficklin, Until Friday Night by Abbi Glines, The Next Together by Lauren James, November 9 by Colleen Hoover, The Winner’s Kiss, Banished by Kimberley Griffiths Little. I could go on and on all day. Thank you for the wonderful giveaway and take your time coming back, I will still be here. ;)

  25. I’m most excited for “Queen of Shadows”! I’ll be pre-ordering that at the beginning of August!
I’d probably choose “The Winner’s Kiss”, if I won! I own the other two books, even though I haven’t read them yet, oops haha.

  26. I’m super excited for Truthwitch!! It’s got everything I love in a story~ Then there’s Six of Crows, Winter Illuminae and just so much more that I can’t wait for :D I hope you enjoy your time off and read lots :D

  27. I cannot wait for The Abyss Surrounds Us which comes out in February! I don’t know if I’d pick that one though since it’s soooooo far away! I don’t know!

  28. There are quite a few I’m looking forward too but I am most excited for Queen of Shadows and The Sword of Summer so I’d likely pick one of those two. Thanks for the giveaway!

  29. Queen of Shadows is on my list, too, but I’m really hoping the Goodreads date for Thorn of Emberlain by Scott Lynch is correct because I’ve been dying to read more about Locke and Jean!
Thanks for hosting this giveaway and have fun reading those review books! :)
